The tourist season has hitherto represented the dawn of a time of relaxation and respite. And to a degree, a repetitive yet distinctive sense of escape. And while the cliche aspirations of that oh-so-perfect getaway vacation resign even the most habitual workaholics to an obsessive and envious bunch, the traffic continues, the prices remain criminal, and seemingly mundane locations that, in the off-season seem dreary and contrite, inherit an exhilarating breath of fresh life and new opportunity.

But to take on the role of a serial contrarian, I have decided to remove the beauty and voluptuous escape from said “touristic” locations, injecting them with the plague of death, fear, and the unknown, thus adding the concept of unfamiliar territory to this knowledge of place. Within each image, the audience will not see a beautiful retreat, but a place removed from a place, corrupted by the echo of mortality and unsettling tension.
